Free, and nothing is booked

How your free estimates work

One short form or one call. You see the prices in writing before you decide anything.

  1. Tell us the move

Where you are leaving from, where you are going, roughly when, and how much home you are moving.

  2. The moving team asks the movers

The 8 Top Movers moving team gets rates from the licensed movers in its network and brings back written estimates.

  3. You compare and choose

Read the estimates side by side. Pick one or none. Asking is never a booking, and you never pay us.

What changes when the move is 500 miles or more

A move across the country is priced, scheduled and delivered differently from a move across town. These are the things to get in writing.

  • It is priced by weight and distance

Long-distance moves are usually charged by the weight of your shipment and the miles, not by the hour. Ask how the weight was worked out.

  • Delivery comes in a window

Your things may share a truck with other loads, so movers give a delivery window rather than one day. Get the first and last dates in writing.

  • Know which kind of estimate you have

A binding estimate fixes the price for the listed items. With a non-binding estimate, the mover cannot make you pay more than 110% of it at delivery.

  • Check the mover on FMCSA

A mover crossing state lines needs a USDOT number. Look it up on the FMCSA website before you sign, and match the name to your estimate.

Questions people ask

Before you ask for estimates

Straight answers about long-haul moves and how this site works.

What counts as a cross-country move on this site?

Top Cross Country Movers covers city-to-city moves of 500 miles or more, for example Miami to Austin. Each route page shows the road miles, a modelled cost range and a modelled delivery window. Shorter city-to-city moves are on Top Movers Hub, and moves planned state by state are on Top Interstate Movers.

How is this different from Top Interstate Movers?

Top Interstate Movers is organised by state pair, such as California to Texas. This site is organised by city pair, for long hauls. Top Movers Hub has city guides, calculators and costs for shorter city-to-city moves. Estimate requests from all three sites go to the 8 Top Movers moving team.

How long does a cross-country move take?

It depends on the miles, the season and whether your things travel on their own truck or share one with other households. Every route page shows a modelled delivery window for that route. Treat it as a planning range, not a promised date: only the mover that carries your things can commit to a delivery window, and it should do so in writing.

Do you operate trucks or storage containers?

No. This site publishes route research. When you ask for estimates, the 8 Top Movers moving team gets rates from the licensed movers in its network and brings back written estimates. You never pay us, and asking is never a booking. Portable storage containers are on Top Storage Pods, a sister site.
